The project, which features Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukerji in pivotal roles, is jointly produced by Excel Entertainment and Aamir Khan Productions, and is scheduled to release on June 1, 2012.

- Talaash is Aamir Khan's second film with both Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukerji who have worked with the actor in superhits like 3 Idiots and Ghulam respectively.
- The movie was previously referred to as 'Dhuaan' (Smoke) but Aamir Khan rubbished the reports and told everyone that its not the official name of the film.
- Kareena Kapoor has worked in a film of the same title 'Talaash' with Akshay Kumar that came out in 2003 but was a flop.
